So shave off your mustache and start growing a beard for the winter.
What’s going on – Obama is speaking, I am cooking dinner and drinking eggnog with Admiral Nelson (Captain Morgans cheaper, I mean younger, brother) and getting ready to look and listen to NPR’s idea of what the decades 50 most important recordings are. In which I will likely compare them to Paste Magazines list of what they think are the best.
This month had Knoxville dominating the music scene. Bands I have seen that deserve some ear time. The Bearded, Jill Andrews, Matt Butcher, Ian Thomas. To just name a few. Google their names, or myspace their music or “ilike” them, twitter them. Wherever you go for music find them and enjoy.
Hope you like all the links. I will do videos next time.
Oh and here is a picture to remind you to drink your coffee in the morning and the afternoon
Yesterday, The “New York Times” printed an article about the use of Twitter in retail. Saying 47% of retailers planned to increase their use of social media this holiday season. It makes a difference, because that is where your audience is and todays youth is focused on the network status and the constant reality of getting everything instantly, consistently and affordably.
So how do you reach your audience, well, for starters you have to know where they are. I know some of my readers are on Twitter, so then why are they not on my list of followers blanketed with that baby blue background?
SOOOO if you are on Twitter and you do want to caught up to date, find me on twitter – Chrisgraham101 is the name and many of you will note the change from whateverhappenedtochrisgraham – the previous name I was using from time to time to update you on my travels. Since I have stopped “traveling” and am setting up for big things in 2010 that will be a good way to stay up to date with not just myself (the website is for that), but with other helpful ways to get information. After all, that is what these digital tools are to be used for; accessibility, quick answers to questions, efficiency, you get the idea. Use it right and you will find purpose in it, use it to waste time updating the world with what you are doing every second (@chrisgraham101 is typing the benefit of twitter) not so much.
Just remember, postcards and letters to loved ones are much better than tweets all the time. Use it right.
I spent some time this past week volunteering for a great organization here in Knoxville, Tennessee and had the opportunity to meet and talk with some wonderful folks who just appreciate someone bringing them a daily meal. Mobile Meals is a program that serves meals to 60+ old citizens in Knoxville County, who unable to have meals prepared, or prepared for them by a family member or caretaker.
Places like this exist in every town and city across America, so I urge you to take two hours out of your knowingly busy day, even if only for once a month and make a difference for someone.
It’s a google search away.
Sounds like a holiday I would make up, but it is 6:17PM as I am typing this and that means you have less than six hours left to say, “I recycled on “America Recycles Day” .
Are you worried?

Rest assured, you can still recycle any and every day that you want, today is no exception except in the way it is recognized.
Rather than type about why you should be recycling, here are some facts direct from the America Recycles website.
FACT: Twenty years ago, almost 1,000 curbside recycling programs existed in the United States. Today there are more than 10,000 across the nation.
FACT: Five PET bottles (plastic soda bottles) yield enough fiber for one extra-large T-shirt, one square foot of carpet or enough fiber to fill one ski jacket.
FACT: I totally recycled cans, plastics, aluminum, and other wasteful packaging materials today. Prior to knowing today was America Recycles Day.
Remember it makes a difference.
The Internet can be so distracting sometimes. I came on here to make a post and then almost forgot what I was going to post about. If you do not listen to the band Brand New, I think you should start. I also feel that way about Modest Mouse, Bob Dylan, Against Me and well, to be honest, I could go on.
Finding a decent affordable bike in Knoxville has been difficult, mainly because I am so tall, but my sister sent me THIS ARTICLE the other day about places for people that hate driving. Thing is, I do not hate driving, I just like knowing that I do not have to. It’s no wonder why I want to live, or lived i some of the cities mentioned in the article. For those of you too lazy to click the link above, that says THIS ARTICLE (2nd chance!) …
Let me break it down for you – Grand Forks, North Dakota has the shortest commuter time, yet most of the commuters still drive cars. or Kahrs, as the say in Boston, which also happened to make the list; as one of the 15 cities where 1/5 of their commuters do not drive.
Kudos to them, but the Yankees still have more titles and more commuters and better public transit.
Today’s advice. Find a different way to get to work, other than your car. Maybe that means someone elses, the bus, a bike, your feet.
Somebody told me National Treasure was a great movie. I am not sure I believe them, but I have yet to actually sit and watch it. Something about Nicolas Cage running around a National Monument with the Declaration of Independence just sounds a bit unwatchable to me. Plus, I think he sports a really bad haircut in that film and we all know bad hair (and bad shoes) can ruin a man these days. However, the film was directed by a gentleman named Jon Turtelaub, who has resurfaced (at least to me) recently to direct a film about Greenpeace.
For those of you in New York City, and I use that as an example because aside from my college campus, NYC was the only time I have dealt with them, we know Greenpeace as a bunch of young hip kids standing at the corner, attempting to make eye contact and saying, “Hey, Please listen for just a second of your time, I am not asking for much”, but no one ever stops, well rarely people stop and they should, but that’s not the point. I stop. When I can anyway.
Greenpeace is a lot more than that.
I do think most people are aware of the fact, but take a second to educate yourself on their website – HERE
Read THIS ARTICLE because it about how said director is going to project onto the screen the efforts of the two Greenpeace founders, Bob Hunter and Rex Weyler.
Then see the film. When it comes out of course.
Now I suppose I will go watch National Treasure.
All three of them.
I know people are out there.
If you are sitting in an office, or cubicle saying to yourself “I really wish I was doing something more productive, or helpful”, here is your chance. Go to the AVON WALK FOR BREAST CANCER site and make a pledge to help. If you are looking for something specific, I can help you out there too. My Aunt Mary is taking part in the walk this year CLICK THIS LINK TO GO TO HER PAGE and/or read down below.
Now go back to your regularly scheduled office pranks
A really great friend of mine recently invested his time and love to give back in a way he knew he could. The result is: www.projectgreenskate.com
Their site will explain what they do, but I urge everyone to take the time to go to it and consider helping in anyway they can. Even just simply telling someone else about it makes a difference.
